CUSTOMERS of Ararat’s National Australia Bank branch have vented their frustrations over a 16 day closure.

The branch closed on the 24th of December and won’t reopen until January 10.

One NAB customer drove 30 minutes into Ararat to do banking only to find the closed sign on the door.

“I needed to do a bank cheque so to find the doors shut on a normal work day is pretty frustrating.

“I don’t have two hours to do a round trip to Delacombe, the whole idea of a local branch is to be open for local customers. I’m pretty pi**ed off,” the customer told the Ararat Advocate.

A bank spokesman said the branch closure was in line with a similar closure over the Christmas/New Year period last year.

A sign on the door of the Ararat branch recommends customers use alternative forms of banking like the post office or to visit the nearest operating branch at Delacome Town Centre, around 100 kilometres away.

Ararat’s four other bank branches – Westpac, Bendigo, ANZ and Commonwealth are all operating normally over the summer with the exception of public holidays.

The Willaura-Lake Bolac Community Bank is also operating as normal.
