Petition seeks support for walking track
PEOPLE who support plans for a walking track all the way around Green Hill Lake are urged to sign a petition seeking funding for the project.

PEOPLE who support plans for a walking track all the way around Green Hill Lake are urged to sign a petition seeking funding for the project.
The Green Hill Lake Development Board has embarked on an ambitious project to construct a seven kilometre walking track around the entire lake.
Currently, the walking track only covers about half the lake, preventing walkers, runners and cyclists from doing the entire circle.
A recent public meeting attracted close to 30 people keen for the project to proceed.
As a result of the meeting, a sub-committee has been established to drive the project and lobby for funding.
The petition calls on Ararat Rural City Council to support the concept of the walking track.
The committee has committed $10,000 towards the walking track. It is expected further funding will come from the Victorian and Commonwealth governments.
Board member Morrie Allgood said the petition will be a good way to ascertain what support there is for the project.
“We have a new page on Facebook that got over 300 likes in a few days so I would hope a thousand people might sign the petition,” Mr Allgood said.
“We haven’t heard from anyone who doesn’t want a walking track at this stage. There are a lot of groups around town, cycling groups, walking groups, they all want it,” he said.
The committee believes a walking track around the entire lake would further enhance the precinct by attracting walkers, schools, joggers, nature lovers and ParkRun participants.
The petition will be placed in businesses around Ararat over the next week which we will list in next Friday’s edition of the Ararat Advocate.
In the meantime, the petition can be signed at this Sunday’s Ararat Market.
