70 years of ladies bowls
ARARAT Bowling Club recently celebrated the 70th anniversary formation of the ladies club.

ARARAT Bowling Club recently celebrated the 70th anniversary formation of the ladies club.
The celebration was held in conjunction with the clubs annual tournament.
The inaugural meeting of associates of the Ararat Bowling Club was held on Monday 18th October 1954.
A total of 42 ladies attended this meeting and were accepted.
The club was affiliated with the Victorian Ladies Bowling Association and after the inaugural meeting, a further 12 ladies joined the club making a total of 54 players.
Today, the club has just 11 active lady bowlers.
Mrs A Stewart was elected unopposed as the inaugural President, Mrs D. Lardner was the first Secretary and Mrs Margaret Shea was elected as first Treasurer.
Mrs Shea is still with us today and resides at Gorrinn Village.
The annual subscription to the club 70 years ago was four pounds.
It was stipulated uniforms were to be white dresses (measured to the correct length from the floor with a measuring stick) along with navy cardigans.
A large number of members and supporters attended the club recently to celebrate the 70th anniversary of ladies bowls.
