GOLD buyer Darren Harris and jeweller Tan Nguyen will be returning to Ararat for their Cash for Unwanted Gold and Jewellery Day this Monday, 14th October.
Darren said the event offers the community a chance to have their items inspected, with services ranging from valuations to advice on
selling, remodelling, or repairing.
“We attend with one of our jewellers, Tan, who has been a jeweller for 40 to 45 years, and we basically do everything—look at people’s
jewellery, coins, collectables, watches, you name it,” Darren said.
“Some people just want to know what they’ve got, while others want a valuation for insurance purposes. Others want to sell the items so we will give them what we think it’s worth and they can either sell it or not sell it.”
In addition to selling opportunities, attendees can receive guidance on how to remake or remodel their pieces, as well as honest advice about the best sales options.
Darren emphasised that the goal is to provide helpful and transparent information, even suggesting alternative ways to get more value for their items.
“It’s pretty laid back,” he said.
“We will give them advice or sometimes if we aren’t the best option to sell it, we will give them another option where they might be able
to get more for it.”
The venture became popular after lockdown due to difficulties in sourcing gold and diamonds.
“But we do it now because we enjoy it more than being in the stores. It’s more fun.”
The day allows for a declutter and for those who have grandma’s engagement ring to finally get it valued.
“People may just want some feedback on their jewellery, like if it needs repairing, we can give them and idea on what need doing to it, roughly what it would cost.”
The Gold Exchange will be at the Ararat Bowls Club from 11 am to 3 pm on Monday the 14th of October.
