Five local gardens were opened to the public - Kate and Wayne Gason’s garden in Barkly Street West, Maree and Russell Potter’s stunning garden in Jenkin Street, Bill and Penny Jones colourful garden in Banfield Street and Andrew McMillan’s family garden in Port Fairy Road.

THE annual Ararat Retirement Village Ladies Auxiliary Open Garden Day was an outstanding success, with hundreds of people touring through some of Ararat’s best gardens last Sunday.
In addition, the gardens of the Ararat Retirement Village were also on show.
Auxiliary President Helen Boling said the Ararat public have once again thrown their support behind the fundraiser.
“Thank you to all the members of the public who came to our Open Garden Day and made it such a huge success.
“We are pleased to announce we raised $6764 which was an amazing achievement,” she said.
Ms Boling said the Ararat Retirement Village has a new wing under construction due for completion early next year, providing an extra 15 beds which will help ease the shortage of aged care places.
“The funds will go towards much needed items for this new area plus café blinds to weatherproof an existing outdoor area for the residents.
“We would like to thank the property owners who worked so hard in the weeks leading up to our event to showcase their magnificent gardens. Kate and Wayne Gason, Maree and Russell Potter, Bill and Penny Jones, Andrew McMillan and the ground staff of the Ararat Retirement Village.”
“Finally, a thank you to the generous sponsorship of The Ararat Advocate, Ace Radio and The Weekly Advertiser, the raffle prize sponsors and to all the volunteers who helped on the day. It was a great team effort,” she said.
The Auxiliary are already looking for new gardens to visit in 2025. Anyone willing to open their garden to the public for the day to raise funds for the retirement village can contact Helen Boling on 0468 333 623 or Nola Pugh on 0409 523 377.
