A group of local car enthusiasts has made a generous donation to East Grampians Health Service in memory of a former club member.<\/p>\n
Grampians Grease Monkeys member Gerald Hurkens passed away in 2021 and the club wanted to express its appreciation for the care he received at Ararat Hospital.<\/p>\n
Last week, they handed over a donation of $2,000 to East Grampians Health Service Chief Executive Nick Bush, flanked by an impressive array of vintage cars.<\/p>\n
Club spokesman Mark Rudolph said the money is earmarked for Ararat Hospital\u2019s oncology department.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was $2,000 in total. $1,000 from one of our members and the club matched that amount with another $1,000,\u201d Mr Rudolph said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe money is for the oncology ward to do with as they see fit, anything to do with cancer and the needs of patients and staff,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not the first time Grampians Grease Monkeys has rallied behind good causes.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re a small club and we\u2019ve run what\u2019s known as Cruise for a Cause, one was for a little girl who was sick and we raised $4,000, we ran another for the oncology ward which again raised $4,000, and another for a little boy who was also sick.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re a club that doesn\u2019t like to have too much money , we give it all away,\u201d Mr Rudolph said.<\/p>\n
Grampians Grease Monkeys is a pre 1965 car club, established in 2013 with idea of being a social and family orientated club.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are very sociable,\u201d Mr Rudolph said.<\/p>\n
