SINGING is good for the soul according to Anglican Priest Martin Nadarajan, who is working hard to return a non-denominational choir to Ararat.<\/p>\n
Father Nadarajan is hoping to attract people from different backgrounds, ages and denominations to join the soon to be established Trinity Choir.<\/p>\n
He\u2019s issued an invitation to anyone who can carry a tune and be a team player to get involved.<\/p>\n
Many Ararat churches once boasted superb choirs which have gone by the wayside as parishioners aged, moved away or passed away.<\/p>\n
Father Nadarajan hopes to start choir practice in July but admits he\u2019s struggling for numbers.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s quite a struggle because the parishioners who used to sing here, most have passed away. Because of COVID, people are still scared to come out.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat I am trying to do is encourage people to come back to church, come back to singing,\u201d Father Nadarajan said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI enjoy music personally. Music is good for the soul, music and singing lifts up the soul, I find music and singing a great comfort and antidote to loneliness and mental health,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the Trinity Choir, you don\u2019t need to be an Anglican, as long as you are happy to be here on a Sunday at 9.30 and be part of the congregation here to sing, we are more than happy to have you.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are not trying to take people from other churches, but if people aren\u2019t going anywhere else on a Sunday, please come along,\u201d Father Nadarajan said.<\/p>\n
Choir Director Kris Hughes said she\u2019s up to the challenge of getting a choir together.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe used to have a really good choir going for quite a long time until COVID so it is very exciting to hopefully build it back up again,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMartin\u2019s idea of inviting people into the choir from any walk of life is a brilliant idea.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s really important people be able to sing, it nourishes you as a person,\u201d Ms Hughes said.<\/p>\n
