THE Blue Light Foundation is raising funds in the lead-up to summer to purchase an inflatable pool.<\/p>\n
The pool will be used for Blue Light events within the local Blue Light branch area, which includes Ararat and Lake Bolac, and covers towns as far as Speed in Victoria\u2019s north-west, Sergeant Shane Allgood said.<\/p>\n
Blue Light will host a basketball tournament at the Ararat Fitness Centre on Wednesday 6th<\/sup> July, featuring a three-on-three competition for Under 14s and Under 18s.<\/p>\n \u201cThe idea is to replicate an American beach basketball competition, with quick, dynamic games, music, and the spectators seated close to the action,\u201d Sergeant Allgood said.<\/p>\n \u201cThere will be trophies for the winners, and door prizes for the players and the spectators, including movie tickets and show bags.\u201d<\/p>\n The tournament is open to mixed teams \u2013 all male, all female, or a combination, Sergeant Allgood said.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are hoping to put together a police team too, if we can, which should be knocked out pretty quickly,\u201d he joked.<\/p>\n An email was sent to Ararat College, Marian College, Lake Bolac College, and Stawell Secondary College inviting students to apply for the school holiday fund-raiser, which will also feature a three-point shootout.<\/p>\n Sergeant Allgood said 2,000 dollars was raised at the Trash and Treasure on Sunday 12th<\/sup> of June at Alexander Hall, which featured a Rotary sausage sizzle and a cake stall run by local bakers Gwenda Allgood and Margaret Dunmore.<\/p>\n Ararat\u2019s Community Opportunity Shop also donated 1,000 dollars to go towards the inflatable pool, which will cost $35,000 to purchase.<\/p>\n Sergeant Allgood said the pool can be loaned out district-wide and have sponsorship logos placed on it, as an incentive to local businesses to sponsor events.<\/p>\n People wanting to join in the holiday fun on July 6th<\/sup> can get an application form from the offices at the aforementioned schools, or via email from Sergeant Shane Allgood (boogie81069@gmail.com).<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" THE Blue Light Foundation is raising funds in the lead-up to summer to purchase an inflatable pool.
