THE Ararat region will soon be home to a farmers market, with council finalising plans with the Pomonal community to host the new monthly event.

In 2021, council received a $30,000 grant from the Victorian Government to plan and publicise a new farmers market.

Council was keen for the new market to be established in one of the smaller towns in the municipality, and after many months of discussion, Pomonal was announced as the location.

Initially the market was being planned for the grounds of popular winery Pomonal Estate, but it will now be held in the grounds of the local hall incorporated with the existing Pomonal Village Market.

Council CEO Tim Harrison said he was pleased with the progress of the new market.

“The farmers market is progressing and I think it has taken a really good twist. There is now a conversation with the people who run the Pomonal Village Market, so it’ll (the farmers market) become a part of their offering which I think is a really good option consolidating everything,” Dr Harrison said.

Council has engaged a consultant to plan the farmers market and Dr Harrison said all will be revealed later in the month.

“Our consultant has been working on the business case and on the 20th of July there will be a meeting where the plan is laid out for the community to see,” he said.

“Pomonal Estate are still going to be involved I believe but the farmers market will just be an addition to the Pomonal Village Market.”

“Farmers markets are a tremendous activity for small communities. They’ve put a while lot of small towns on the map, take Talbot, it’s a small community but the market draws a lot of people into the town.”

“Pomonal is a lovely town with a beautiful backdrop, it has more to offer than Talbot,” he said.

Dr Harrison said he was hoping the market plan will be finalised soon.

“I’d be hoping we would get it going pretty soon. Spring seems like the perfect time as the weather gets better,” Dr Harrison said.

THE Ararat region will soon be home to a farmers market, with council finalising plans with the Pomonal community to host the new monthly event.

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

1

31
post-1177","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news

https://i0.wp.com/theadvocate.net.au/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/138252566_1854615851369636_7437513305363170098_n.jpg?fit=1440%2C1440&ssl=1
["GET
