REGULAR visitors to the Alexandra Gardens say they are outraged by the death of a male swan at the weekend.<\/p>\n
The male swan has lived in the gardens for years, but was discovered with a broken neck on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
Lake Gardens Caf\u00e9 owner Sanjay Das said he reported the dead swan to council on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne of my customers Gary came and said the swan is dead so I went and had a look and his neck was broken,\u201d Mr Das said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe mother and her babies didn\u2019t want to come out of the lake.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI contacted the council and I think they took (the swan),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Mr Das said regular customers loved seeing the swans in the gardens.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe customers love the swans, some come and feed them every day,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
While the exact cause of his death is unknown, regular visitor to the gardens Ken Malcolm says he has no doubts someone killed him.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m devastated by it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would imagine there would be many people saddened by this. A lot of people walk around the lake every day who know and love the swans.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe swans are a great attraction. It is very sad that someone has done this,\u201d Mr Malcolm said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHow could some low life come into the gardens and night and do something like this,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
It is understood the swan\u2019s body was disposed of by council staff.<\/p>\n
