SMW Rovers Netball coach Courtney Guy believes the netball department is laying the right foundations for prolonged success.<\/p>\n
Coming from a successful playing background with Laharum, where she was part of a drought-breaking A-Grade premiership at 15-years-old, Guy has sought to replicate this formula for long-term success in her role as SMW Rovers coach.<\/p>\n
Since her appointment last year, Guy has implemented several changes, both on-and-off the court, with the help of her players, who have embraced this new direction.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo build those foundations and strengthen those connections with Rovers is really important,\u201d Guy said,<\/p>\n
\u201cThe girls we have and the community we\u2019ve created at the club has changed quite a lot compared to what maybe they had in the past. There\u2019s a real want to try hard and bring that success.<\/p>\n
\u201cComing into the club president Nic Byrne and I spoke about things like implementing a five-year plan and bringing in those big changes, which are not going to happen overnight. Everyone has that long term goal in their heads around the club and we can definitely achieve it.\u201d<\/p>\n
On the court, Rovers will put a new system to the test against league-leader Tatyoon this weekend.<\/p>\n
Tinkering with the gameplan after a slow start against Hawkesdale-Macarthur, everything appeared to click into place after several positional shifts.<\/p>\n
Keeping these changes in place the following week, Rovers recorded their fourth win of the season against a spirited Great Western side.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the first term against Hawkesdale I had an idea about making quite a big change because they jumped us and got out to a big lead, so we made it and then for the next three quarters it was goal-for-goal. The score in that game probably didn\u2019t reflect how well we did by the end.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was more about changing our defenders and swapping them around because they\u2019re quite versatile. I found with the match-ups on the day making that change early really helped.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think we\u2019ll keep this new system. We\u2019ll make changes accordingly with match-ups on the day as well but the girls seem a lot more settled with this one as well so we\u2019ll go with it over the next few weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
