{"id":1417,"date":"2022-07-01T14:49:38","date_gmt":"2022-07-01T04:49:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theadvocate.net.au\/?p=1417"},"modified":"2022-08-12T14:50:50","modified_gmt":"2022-08-12T04:50:50","slug":"250-senior-games-for-jono-box","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theadvocate.net.au\/2022\/07\/01\/250-senior-games-for-jono-box\/","title":{"rendered":"250 senior games for Jono Box"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SMW Rovers stalwart Jonathan Box celebrated his 250<sup>th<\/sup> match in style with a five goal haul and a best on ground performance in a big win over Moyston-Willaura.<\/p>\n<p>Box starred as the Rovers kicked 32 goals on their return to the winners list; dismantling the Pumas by 203-points at home.<\/p>\n<p>With no signs of slowing down, \u201cFlick\u201d, as he is known to his teammates, leads by example at the club; volunteering at every opportunity and undertaking committee member roles, including seven years as Club President.<\/p>\n<p>Along with his impressive tally of senior matches, Box has played around 120 junior and 50 reserves games at the club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think I started playing when I was about eight or nine years old, sitting on the bench for the Rovers\u2019 Under 16s and getting the odd quarter here and there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe best moments are having the opportunity to play with friends and family, as well as being able to play with people I looked up to as a junior, and to also now be raising my family at the club.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With the 250 milestone out the way, Box now sets his sights towards 300, where he would join his father and MDFL Life Member John Box, who played 312 senior games for the club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would love to get to 300 games and be included in a very exclusive group of men at the club that includes my father,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, I\u2019d also love to see the club maintain and recruit the next generation of footballers to see the success and survival of our club.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Box was one of 11 goalscorers on the day, with Callum Baker and David Box kicking seven and six goals respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The club travels to Lismore-Derrinallum this weekend.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SMW Rovers stalwart Jonathan Box celebrated his 250th match in style with a five goal haul and a best on ground performance in a big win over Moyston-Willaura.
