THE CITY of Ararat could be celebrating its second minor premiership this weekend, with the Rats in the box-seat to join the Eagles in lifting early silverware.<\/p>\n
Ararat Eagles sewed up the Mininera minor premiership with a commanding 57-point win over Hawkesdale Macarthur, which saw them finish the campaign undefeated with a percentage of over 400 \u2013 the first team since 2005 to do so.<\/p>\n
The minor premiership sees the Eagles earn the week off in the first week of finals.<\/p>\n
In the Wimmera, the Ararat Rats could be crowned minor premiers without even kicking a ball this weekend.<\/p>\n
The Rats will claim their first minor premiership in 20 years should Minyip-Murtoa either lose or win but fail overtake the Rats on percentage.<\/p>\n
The Rats have the bye in the final round of the Wimmera season and currently sit four points and boast a near 55 per cent greater percentage than second place Minyip-Murtoa.<\/p>\n
Should the Rats end the home-and-away season atop the Wimmera ladder, they will also get next week\u2019s first week of finals off before heading into their Major Semi-Final.<\/p>\n
The Rats suffered their third defeat of the Wimmera season last week \u2013 going down by 15-points to the Horsham Demons.<\/p>\n
The fortnight\u2019s rest has traditionally been a curse for top teams (see Essendon in 1990), though will be something the Rats will be prepared for having already dealt with this situation earlier this year when their first bye fell a week before the league-bye over the Queen\u2019s Birthday weekend.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
