ARARAT Eagles co-coach Brett Sladdin hopes his side will bring the physicality which saw it dominate the Mininera competition this season in Saturday\u2019s Grand Final.<\/p>\n
Despite having to take a detour via the preliminary final to reach tomorrow\u2019s decider, the Eagles finished the regular season as the competition\u2019s benchmark after an undefeated home-and-away campaign.<\/p>\n
After \u201cfailing to get [their] hands\u201d on the ball in their semi-final defeat to Tatyoon a fortnight ago, Sladdin hopes his side will respond with its physical brand.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe love a physical contest and play our best when we\u2019re physical, so we\u2019ll be looking to bring that on Saturday,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to be pretty hard at it and if they have the ball, we want them to know that they\u2019ve been tackled.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sladdin is also confident there is plenty of firepower in his side\u2019s arsenal should Tatyoon choose to tag any one of the Eagles\u2019 gun midfielders.<\/p>\n
\u201cOther teams have tagged different blokes before, but we\u2019ve got eight to ten blokes who can play any position on the ground. They\u2019ve all played a bit of footy, so they know when they have to cover for someone if they\u2019re getting tagged or if they need to put a block on and make it easier for whoever it is,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Despite receiving plenty of attention from opposition players this season, Jayden Wright managed to poll 37 votes to win the WJ Lewis Medal on Monday.<\/p>\n
This is the first finals series the club has been involved in since joining the Mininera competition.<\/p>\n
From nearly folding to gearing up for a Grand Final within three years, Sladdin says the journey is one which has seen \u201ca lot of good people\u201d contribute.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe wouldn\u2019t have thought this would happen a few years ago but we\u2019re here now and it is very exciting,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not something we\u2019ve experienced for a while at the Eagles but we\u2019ve had a lot of good people come in across both sports and everyone has been involved in getting us to where we are.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
