TRAVELLING 900 kilometres to play three games over two weekends would serve as the ultimate odyssey for most athletes.<\/p>\n
Except for Ararat\u2019s basketballers.<\/p>\n
For them, this is just another block of games in a season.<\/p>\n
And one they recently ticked off.<\/p>\n
Victory over Colac last Sunday was the final leg of this recent series of away trips which included going to Mount Gambier and Millicent the weekend before to play back-to-back games.<\/p>\n
The trip to Mount Gambier and Millicent a fortnight saw the side clock 562 kilometres over the one weekend, something coach Rhys Burger believes has plenty of upside despite the exhaustion.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor the Mount Gambier trip, we stayed the night there and have a bit of a bonding experience where we can hang out and then play the game and then relax some more, before getting back into it the next day,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a lot of fun but pretty exhausting. Connecting with everyone over those weekends are the fun bits and making the most of it while you\u2019re over there with some mates.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere aren\u2019t too many double header or overnight trips in football or anything like that, so it\u2019s probably one of the only sports around here where you\u2019d get that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Burger says the team took plenty out of the recent road-trips, which included narrow defeats to Mount Gambier and Millicent, which sit first and third respectively on the table.<\/p>\n
While the Redbacks are not scheduled to have consecutive away games over a weekend for the rest of the season, they have two more sets of back-to-back matches to come.<\/p>\n
Their next is this weekend, where they will host Terang on Saturday before travelling around 180 kilometres South-East to face Surfcoast on Sunday.<\/p>\n
\u201cTerang have surprised a few teams and have some wins on the board, so we won\u2019t take them lightly at all,\u201d Burger said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThen we\u2019ve got Surf Coast on the Sunday over there which will be a fair trip as well \u2013 around two and a bit hours in the car, which I\u2019d imagine will be pretty tough the next day.\u201d<\/p>\n
