THE 15th annual Grampians Ride to Remember is drawing nearer with organisers expecting over 500 participants in this year’s event.

February’s ride will take participants through 197 kilometres of picturesque countryside from Ararat to Moyston, Pomonal, Lake Fyans, Halls Gap, Yarram Gap, Willaura and Maroona, returning to the Alexandra Gardens.

Organisers say over 200 people have already registered for the ride online with several hundred more expected before the big day.

Chairman of the Blue Ribbon Foundation Ride sub-committee Dean Pinniger said everything falling into place for a successful event.

“I would suggest we will get 500 to 550 riders again this year which makes for a successful event. That is the sort of the number we have achieved over recent years, even during the pandemic,” Mr Pinniger said.

“We think we will raise around that $25,000 mark post expenses. We do have some new sponsors coming on board which assist a lot because there are expenses involved.”

Mr Pinniger said money raised will again go towards extra equipment for Ararat Hospital.

“We’re currently looking to raise funds for a third ultrasound machine for the John McNally Imaging Department.

“Last year after the (Blue Ribbon) Ball we raised enough to finish off the amount we pledged for the new x-ray equipment at the hospital so we have a new target with this third ultrasound machine,” he said.

“We have a meeting next week which will be our last meeting before the ride bar for our safety meeting with police which is held just prior to the ride to make sure everything is accounted for and in place and safety being our number one priority,” he said.

“I’m 100 per cent sure it will be another successful ride again. The final numbers we won’t know until the day. A lot of people book ahead with Trybooking but a lot of others will just turn up,” Mr Pinniger said.

Since the ride started, over 4500 people have participated in Ride to Remember raising over $200,000 for Ararat Hospital.

Importantly, the 2023 Ride remembers the sacrifice of officers who have fallen in the line of duty and to show all serving members of Victoria Police that their work and commitment is valued by the community.

The Ride leaves Ararat RSL at 9am sharp on Sunday the 5th of February, with morning tea in Moyston and lunch upon return to the Alexandra Gardens.

A Show n Shine will be on display in the gardens as well as health checks and the sale of popular Blue Ribbon merchandise.

Registration is $40 all inclusive and can be made by visiting https://www.trybooking.com/CCXJN.
