FORMER Ripon MP Louise Staley is in the running to run the troubled Victorian division of the Liberal Party.<\/p>\n
The Victorian Liberals suffered another disastrous loss at November\u2019s election, failing to make any gains from the Andrews Government.<\/p>\n
Previous state director Sam McQuestin has resigned, opening the way for a new direction under a new director.<\/p>\n
Ms Staley confirmed to the Advocate this week she is an applicant for the job.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have been approached to apply and I will do so,\u201d Ms Staley said.<\/p>\n
However, due to party rules, Ms Staley was unable to offer any further comment.<\/p>\n
New Liberal Leader John Pesutto and Wannon MP Dan Tehan have been appointed to an internal recruitment panel to pick the state party\u2019s new director.<\/p>\n
Ms Staley is regarded as one of the Liberals best campaigners, fending off a vigorous challenge from Labor in 2018 to win by 15 votes.<\/p>\n
She has the backing of several state MPs, former Premier Jeff Kennett and a number of high-profile women within the party.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s understood at least three people are in the running for the job.<\/p>\n
Ms Staley held the seat of Ripon from 2014 to November last year when she was defeated by Labor\u2019s Martha Haylett.<\/p>\n
