ARARAT\u2019s ambulance services have been expanded this week with two new Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance (MICA) paramedics starting on Monday.<\/p>\n
The MICA paramedics deliver on a promise made in 2018 by Premier Daniel Andrews.<\/p>\n
MICA paramedics have a higher clinical skill set and can perform more advanced medical procedures.<\/p>\n
They can perform advanced airway management, manage complex head injuries, treat life-threatening chest injuries and provide advanced management of cardiac conditions.<\/p>\n
During a visit to Ararat last year, Health Minister Mary-Anne Thomas said the MICA paramedics will offer another level of specialised service for Ararat residents when it is needed most.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a really great message for the local community to know that those intensive care ambulances are available to deliver more acute services,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur MICA paramedics are highly skilled, and Ararat\u2019s new crew will ensure locals receive the best possible care,\u201d Minister Thomas said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, finishing touches are being made to the Ararat Ambulance Station following a major refurbishment.<\/p>\n
The ambulance station has been modified to include a new covered space for the MICA crews along with new medical and delivery stores and improved training facilities and amenities for paramedics.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe refurbishment is delivering a modern and advanced ambulance station that will enable hard-working paramedics to provide the best lifesaving emergency care, now and into the future,\u201d Ms Thomas said.<\/p>\n
It is expected ambulance crews will return to the upgraded ambulance station in February from their temporary location in Port Fairy Road.<\/p>\n
