ARARAT Bowling Club recently celebrated the 70th anniversary formation of the ladies club.<\/p>\n
The celebration was held in conjunction with the clubs annual tournament.<\/p>\n
The inaugural meeting of associates of the Ararat Bowling Club was held on Monday 18th October 1954.<\/p>\n
A total of 42 ladies attended this meeting and were accepted.<\/p>\n
The club was affiliated with the Victorian Ladies Bowling Association and after the inaugural meeting, a further 12 ladies joined the club making a total of 54 players.<\/p>\n
Today, the club has just 11 active lady bowlers.<\/p>\n
Mrs A Stewart was elected unopposed as the inaugural President, Mrs D. Lardner was the first Secretary and Mrs Margaret Shea was elected as first Treasurer.<\/p>\n
Mrs Shea is still with us today and resides at Gorrinn Village.<\/p>\n
The annual subscription to the club 70 years ago was four pounds.<\/p>\n
It was stipulated uniforms were to be white dresses (measured to the correct length from the floor with a measuring stick) along with navy cardigans.<\/p>\n
