TATYOON Red Cross is set to celebrate 110 years of Australian Red Cross services in Australia.<\/p>\n
Tatyoon Red Cross was formed in 2016, just two years after the Red Cross was formed in Australia.<\/p>\n
The club is planning a milestone event to commemorate the group\u2019s contributions, including efforts their members took in during World War II, where between 1941 and 1947, they sewed or knitted 698 items and packaged food for the British Appeal.<\/p>\n
Despite the dissolution of the formal committee, the Tatyoon Friends of Red Cross still gather to help raise funds and catch up.<\/p>\n
Tatyoon Friends of Red Cross\u2019 fundraising efforts continued through the decades with football catering, raffles, school events for \u2018Junior Red Cross\u2019, Gymkhana\u2019s and Red Cross Calling, the annual fundraiser that supports emergencies and disasters across Australia and overseas.<\/p>\n
Despite the small group, the ladies of Tatyoon Friends of Red Cross still manage to raise between $900-$1000 each year, as part of the Red Cross Calling.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince we are still going, we thought we better do something,\u201d member Jenny McKay said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve got all this history so we may as well show people if they want to see it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The group is planning an exhibition of historical photos and archived newspaper articles and more about the group\u2019s long history.<\/p>\n
Member Jeanie Armstrong said Red Cross has played an important role over the years.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve had so many helpers over the years. Some didn\u2019t attend the meetings regularly but always came to help out.\u201d<\/p>\n
