LAST Friday, the Stawell and Ararat Cross Country Club (SACCC) celebrated Leah Seebohm’s dream season in awarding her both the overall club aggregate and the women’s championship.

Also, past Australian World Cross Country Championship representative Paul Fenn again etched his name onto the club championship trophy for the 4th time in his long career.

Leah Seebohm strung together a season where she was awarded the most consistent competitor in the handicap series, for season 2024.

Being relatively new to running, Leah has put together a wonderful season with the SACCC, dominating the club aggregate points system, where she accumulated 132 points to be consistently the highest handicap placegetter amongst her competitors.

Annie Brown was runners-up in the category, achieving 120 points. This was only 3 points clear of the ever consistent Adrian Van Raaphorst, who finished in 3rd place, with 117 points.

In the open championship, Paul Fenn dominated the championship race series winning 3 out of the 4 possible races.

This earned him 38 points to take out the highly regarded club championship for the fourth time in his decorated career.

His long time training partner, Mark Thompson took second place (34 points) with the dominant Leah Seebohm running so well, she took the official 3rd place in the open championship (18 points).

In the Ladies Championship that was generously sponsored by David and Leanne Fenn, Leah Seebohm took out the top prize with 38 points. Last year’s joint winners Annie Brown and Helen McPherson showed what a wonderful season they have put together with Brown finishing runners-up (32 points), closely followed by McPherson for 3rd place (30 points).

In the over 40’s championship, Paul Fenn also took the category top prize with 38 points from Mark Thompson (34 points) and Matt Haddow earning 3rd place (26 points).

Paul became the second of the Fenn family to take this prize after his father David Fenn won the same category 19 years ago.

The over 50’s club championship was won by Helen McPherson, with a maximum of 40 points. Sue Blizzard was runners-up with 25 points from Adrian Van Raaphorst taking 3rd place with 19 points.

New member Grant Campbell was recognised for his strong performances in his first season with the SACCC and given the club encouragement award.

Ally Marr also was acknowledged for his club minded efforts during the season and was given the club person of the year award.

The major milestone run for the season was Adrian Van Raaphorst’s incredible 650th run.

The club stopped to recognise what is the second highest total runs that anyone has accumulated in the 57 years the club has existed.

The club will now look towards the 2025 season with their Annual General Meeting in November.
