ARARAT resident Daryl Chaplin has been announced as King of this year\u2019s Golden Gateway Festival.<\/p>\n
Well known in local theatre circles, Daryl came to Ararat in his yearly twenties for what he thought would be a brief stay.
\n32 years later, Ararat is still home for Daryl and his two children Peta and Aaron.<\/p>\n
Daryl\u2019s passion to be involved in theatre began from the age of 12 with Bloc and Lyric and other theatre companies around Ballarat.<\/p>\n
He quickly involved himself with Ararat Musical Comedy Society and Ararat Theatre Company now known as ARTS.<\/p>\n
He loves being on stage he is currently in rehearsal for ARTS production of \u201cCruise Club\u201d which will be staged in November.<\/p>\n
He has also appeared in tv productions and more recently was an extra in the local movie \u2018Just a Farmer\u2019.<\/p>\n
Daryl was a member of the Ararat Fire Brigade for 18 years, 10 years volunteering with Ararat SES and also a voluntary member of the GIGARATS.<\/p>\n
Daryl become a committee member of the Golden Gateway Festival and later held positions of Vice President and President.<\/p>\n
He was awarded a Life Membership of the Festival, recognising his contributions to the community.<\/p>\n
When asked to be the 2024 King, Daryl said he was overwhelmed and excited to be involved in the 65th Golden Gateway Festival.<\/p>\n
