THE Ararat Retirement Village Ladies Auxiliary is once again hosting its popular Open Gardens event with five beautiful gardens to explore throughout Ararat.<\/p>\n
The annual event will also feature a plant sale at the Gorrinn Village Gardens.<\/p>\n
Ladies Auxiliary President Helen Boling said the open gardens were an important fundraiser for Gorrin Village.<\/p>\n
\u201cLast year, we raised funds for a motorised blind over a seating area where residents sit with their coffee as you come into the village.\u201d<\/p>\n
As the renovations to Gorrinn Village continue, this year\u2019s fundraising will go towards resources the village will need.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis year, we’re assuming they’ll need more equipment,” she said.<\/p>\n
The event has grown over the years, with more people taking an interest in local gardens.<\/p>\n
“The first year we had 100 people, and I thought that was quite good, but last year we had over 300. People do love looking at gardens.”<\/p>\n
One of the featured gardens belongs to Maree Potter, who has spent the past 20 years building her own outdoor oasis.<\/p>\n
“I like to look and see what people have done with certain plants. Most of the time, you come away with an idea,” she said.<\/p>\n
Now with more time on her hands, Maree is excited to share her garden with others.<\/p>\n
Tickets are $20 per person, and a Devonshire tea will be served at 40-42 Barkly Street West for $5.<\/p>\n
The funds raised will help fulfil the auxiliary’s wish list to benefit the retirement village residents.<\/p>\n
