Amanda Mead is running for a seat at this year’s Ararat Rural City Council election.

Here’s her pitch.

As a property and business owner, I understand the pressing challenges of the rising cost of living.

Many of us are paying more for services while receiving less in return.

While our current council claims there have been no rate increases in seven years, rural property owners like myself have seen significant rate hikes.

This disconnect highlights a troubling lack of accountability.

The council’s approach to public consultation is inadequate, often favouring discussions with a select few who align with their views.

This practice breeds distrust and alienates many residents.

I am committed to changing this by fostering open communication and genuine engagement with the entire community.

I will work to eliminate corrupt practices within the council, such as nepotism and the grooming of “yes” candidates who simply support the status quo.

It’s time to end the bullying tactics that silence dissenting voices.

I will hold the council and CEO accountable for their actions, ensuring full transparency in all council matters, including financial records and decision-making processes.

Additionally, I will advocate against councillors using their positions for personal gain, prioritising the needs of our community above all else.

Our focus should return to the basics: roads, rates, and rubbish.

Your vote for me is a vote for integrity and accountability.

Together, we can restore trust in our local government and ensure that your voice is heard.

Let’s create a council that truly represents the interests of its constituents.
