LAST Friday marked the official launch of the 2024 Golden Gateway Festival, with the annual coronation and cabaret ball at the Ararat Town Hall.<\/p>\n
The highlight of the evening was the crowning of this year\u2019s Festival King and Queen.<\/p>\n
Daryl Chaplin was crowned as the 2024 Festival King by outgoing 2023 King Charlie Millear, while Ruby Evans received her crown as the 2024 Festival Queen from 2023, Queen Ashlyn Wheeler.<\/p>\n
Ruby was one of five young ladies vying for the title as well as Layla Alexander-Foster, Audrey Reynolds, Sophie Cooper and Aylah Knight.<\/p>\n
Alongside the crowning ceremony, special recognition awards were presented, honouring dedicated individuals for their contributions to the town. Donna Dunmore was awarded life membership, and Rennie Hannan received a community award for her ongoing efforts in supporting local activities.<\/p>\n
Festival committee spokesperson Melissa Perry expressed gratitude to all who made the evening possible.<\/p>\n
“The committee thanks the Ararat Rural City for their support of the evening, as well as our other sponsors, without whom the festival wouldn\u2019t be possible.”<\/p>\n
Looking ahead, the festival activities continue this weekend.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are so many activities still to come over the last three days of the festival including the Jayco display beside the Alexandra Hall, Bingo in Willaura and the festival parade on Sunday.\u201d<\/p>\n
