THE annual Ararat Retirement Village Ladies Auxiliary Open Garden Day was an outstanding success, with hundreds of people touring through some of Ararat\u2019s best gardens last Sunday.<\/p>\n

Five local gardens were opened to the public – Kate and Wayne Gason\u2019s garden in Barkly Street West, Maree and Russell Potter\u2019s stunning garden in Jenkin Street, Bill and Penny Jones colourful garden in Banfield Street and Andrew McMillan\u2019s family garden in Port Fairy Road.<\/p>\n

In addition, the gardens of the Ararat Retirement Village were also on show.<\/p>\n

Auxiliary President Helen Boling said the Ararat public have once again thrown their support behind the fundraiser.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you to all the members of the public who came to our Open Garden Day and made it such a huge success.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are pleased to announce we raised $6764 which was an amazing achievement,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Ms Boling said the Ararat Retirement Village has a new wing under construction due for completion early next year, providing an extra 15 beds which will help ease the shortage of aged care places.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe funds will go towards much needed items for this new area plus caf\u00e9 blinds to weatherproof an existing outdoor area for the residents.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe would like to thank the property owners who worked so hard in the weeks leading up to our event to showcase their magnificent gardens. Kate and Wayne Gason, Maree and Russell Potter, Bill and Penny Jones, Andrew McMillan and the ground staff of the Ararat Retirement Village.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFinally, a thank you to the generous sponsorship of The Ararat Advocate, Ace Radio and The Weekly Advertiser, the raffle prize sponsors and to all the volunteers who helped on the day.\u00a0 It was a great team effort,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
