CHRISTMAS has come early for Gorrinn House Hostel with the Federal Government confirming a major grant to upgrade facilities.<\/p>\n
Labor Senator Raff Ciccone said Gorrinn House Hostel was one of two aged care facilities in the Wannon electorate to receive a combined $1.8 million funding.<\/p>\n
The vast majority of funding, $1.4 million has been allocated to Gorrinn House Hostel\u00a0 for equipment purchases and refurbishment of established rooms to complement a self-funded $7 million, 15-bed extension of the facility due to open next year.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis funding is great news for Gorrinn House. The projects will support locals to access quality aged care services while remaining close to their families and cultural connections,\u201d Senator Ciccone said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis significant investment demonstrates the Albanese Government\u2019s commitment to improving aged care in regional Victoria and across Australia.<\/p>\n
\u201cOlder Australians play such an important role in our communities and it\u2019s essential they are provided the very best care and support,\u201d Senator Ciccone said.<\/p>\n
Gorrinn Village CEO Robyn Woods-Gebler told the Advocate this week, the funds from the Aged Care Capital Assistance Program will improve the amenity of residents.<\/p>\n
She said the grant will cover 76 items including refurbish 60 rooms with new beds, window furnishings, TVs in every room, fridges in every room, electric lift chairs in every room to bring the rooms up to the same standard as the new wing.<\/p>\n
There will also be a replacement of all lounge and dining furniture, the purchase of new medical equipment, new fencing, irrigation, plants, concreting and a golf cart to navigate the grounds of the facility.<\/p>\n
There was also funding for activities, like virtual reality for residents, a projector and even an ice cream cart.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have documented quotes for all of these items and they have been fully funded (under this grant),\u201d Ms Woods-Gebler said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis building is now 20 years old and this grant applies to this building. It\u2019s still reasonably modern but the furnishings are suffering, they\u2019ve had 20 years of hard work,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s all to make this building as liveable and as attractive to the residents as the new wing will be.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Woods-Gebler said she and her staff had put in countless hours to secure the grant.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re very happy,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Minister for Aged Care, Anika Wells, said older Australians deserve access to safe and quality aged care services\u2014regardless of where they live.<\/p>\n
\u201cRound 2 of ACCAP will help regional and rural aged care providers like Gorrinn House Hostel to deliver appropriate cultural care and create more home-like environments, with comfortable and modern amenities, more liveable spaces and fewer shared rooms.<\/p>\n
