COMMUNITY groups across Greater Ararat will benefit from council’s latest round of Community Support Grants, which provides financial support to community-based initiatives and events.

Council chief executive, Tim Harrison, said council is committed to continuing its support for local initiatives and programs, with over $21,767 worth of grants delivered in this last round.

“Funding support from Council recognises the vital role local groups and clubs have on community life in rural towns,” Dr Harrision said.

“The funding provides a great opportunity for community organisations across our municipality to get a much-needed boost for their event or project.

“In the latest round, we were able to assist seven deserving community groups with their events, including the Ararat Fire Brigade, Willaura Modern, and the Country Women’s Association,” Dr Harrison said.

Country Women’s Association of Victoria (CWA) State President Marion Dewar is thrilled to have Council support for their upcoming State Exhibition at Ararat Town Hall on 20-21 August.

“Receiving a grant makes it much easier for organisations like us to hold an event, and to be financially successful,” Mrs Dewar said.

“The funds raised from the State Creative Arts Exhibition will go towards the work we do, to help women, children and our community.

“It’s also a chance to showcase the whole association and inform the public of what we do,” she said.

“The CWA is volunteer-run and often the largest expense for our organisation is venue hire. Having a generous sponsorship like this one can really help in that regard.

“For the first time, we’re hosting a Sock Festival in Ararat in conjunction with the event, which is exciting. Members from the branches in the local area (Beaufort Group) are looking forward to both assisting with the event and welcoming members from across the state,” Ms Dewar said.

Ararat Rural City Council has allocated $95,000 as part of Council’s 2021/22 budget towards the Community Grants program.
