<\/p>\nTHREE Dynamic Dance Ararat students have progressed to the national level of the DanceStar competition, to be held on the Gold Coast next month.<\/p>\n
Studio owner, Laura Cameron, said the dancers competed at the regional stage in May and earned an invite to nationals two weeks ago at the state competition.<\/p>\n
\u201cStudents were thrilled with their well-deserved results. They worked exceptionally hard to participate in these competitions and we are exceptionally proud of all of their achievements,\u201d Mrs Cameron said.<\/p>\n
Alicia Linsley and Emma Blackie, both 19, will compete in the Old Skool section and Bonnie Mellor, 16, will perform in the Secondary Senior section.<\/p>\n
Ms Blackie placed second in both her lyrical and jazz auditions at the state competition, while Ms Linsley scored three third places for her lyrical and jazz auditions, and lyrical solo.<\/p>\n
\u201cI’m really proud of Alicia because her lyrical solo was her own choreography, so the fact that she managed to achieve that result is a really big thing for her,\u201d Mrs Cameron said.<\/p>\n
Ms Linsley said she is beyond excited to be heading to nationals for the first time.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a dream come true. Gaining a place using my own choreography has helped me feel more confident in my dancing and has helped me grow as a dancer,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Bonnie Mellor is the youngest of the three and heads to nationals after placing second in her lyrical audition, third in her jazz audition and qualifying in three glee categories.<\/p>\n
Mrs Cameron explained that all three dancers had to pre-record their auditions for judging because of COVID-19 induced rescheduling, with only Ms Mellor and Ms Linsley able to perform their solo pieces at the physical state competition in Geelong.<\/p>\n
The nationals are scheduled for mid-August on the Gold Coast but communication from DanceStar this week indicates a possible move to a virtual event pending restrictions.<\/p>\n
