HE Country Women\u2019s Association will showcase its skills in August with a major gathering in Ararat.<\/p>\n
The annual CWA State Creative Arts Exhibition will be held at Ararat Town Hall on August 20 and 21, showcasing the skills of Victorian members in over 270 categories, including crafts, knitting, embroidery, art, cookery, preserves, toys and dolls and many more.<\/p>\n
As part of the 2021 Exhibition, the CWA will be holding the first \u201cArarat Sock Festival\u201d.<\/p>\n
This event will be open to everyone: CWA members, their friends and family and the general public.<\/p>\n
Knitters are invited to participate and celebrate hand knitted socks with some great prizes on offer.<\/p>\n
There is a seniors and juniors section and a number of different categories including novelty socks, baby socks, socks using two or more different coloured yarns, picture socks and plain socks.<\/p>\n
Prize winners will receive packages of yarn from CWA sponsors and all socks entered will be displayed during the two day exhibition.<\/p>\n
Ararat CWA President, Melissa Morrison, said it was a huge honour to be hosting the state-wide Creative Arts Exhibition.<\/p>\n
\u201cHopefully we get lots of entries from across Victoria. Most of our local members have already knitted a pair of socks and hopefully the Ararat Sock Exhibition might become an annual event,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe think this exhibition will be great for Ararat and will attract a lot of visitors. Hopefully people aren\u2019t put off by COVID,\u201d Ms Morrison said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe organisers will come to Ararat for the whole week and of course all the helpers who come from all around the state. We need a lot of helpers to set everything up, organise things, sell raffle tickets and pack up at the end,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Entries for the Sock Festival close today but knitters have until the 11th of August to knit and submit their socks.<\/p>\n

The Ararat Sock Festival Creative Arts State Exhibition will be held at the Ararat Town Hall, Friday 20 August 9.00 am \u2013 5.00 pm and Saturday 21 August 9.00 am \u2013 4.00 pm.<\/p>\n
Admission is $10 for adults, children free.<\/p>\n
