<\/p>\nARARAT Senior Citizens were able to hold their Annual General Meeting last Thursday just as the latest COVID-19 lockdown was being announced.<\/p>\n
Cr Gwenda Allgood chaired the meeting, which saw the same committee returned for another 12 months.<\/p>\n
The committee consists of John Woods (President), Jan Murphy (Secretary), Lorna Davies (Treasurer), Marion Claringbold, John Joyce, Jim Murphy, Val Wilson, Jill Tierney and Pauline Borrelli.<\/p>\n
The AGM was also an opportunity to recognise the services of a valued member of the club.<\/p>\n
Jill Tierney was presented with a badge at the meeting naming her a \u201clife member\u201d of Ararat Senior Citizens.<\/p>\n
She has been a dedicated member of the club for 25 years, joining when she was 55.<\/p>\n
Secretary Jan Murphy said Jill is passionate about the club and its people.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe has served on the committee for a number of years and hardly ever misses meetings, functions or dances. If there\u2019s something on at the senior cits, Jill will be there,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe haven\u2019t given out many life memberships, John Joyce is the only other one I can remember since I joined,\u201d Mrs Murphy said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was one (rare) committee meeting where Jill couldn\u2019t make it and that\u2019s when we made the decision. It was unanimous,\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cShe didn\u2019t have any idea, even when she saw her family sitting in the hall,\u201d Mrs Murphy said.<\/p>\n
Under normal circumstances, Ararat Senior Citizens meet every Thursday at 2pm.<\/p>\n
They have a monthly guest speaker as well as regular entertainment, games including bingo and hoy and movies afternoons.<\/p>\n
There\u2019s also a dance on second Friday night of the month starting at 8pm. Dance classes are held Monday nights at 7pm.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s hoped the regular activities will resume shortly after current restrictions are eased.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
