TELSTRA customers at Ballyrogan have been without landline telephones for a week after an outage at the local exchange.<\/p>\n
Phones went down during a storm last Thursday night, and the Telstra website suggests they won\u2019t be back on until next Tuesday.<\/p>\n
12 days without a telephone in an area dogged by poor mobile reception has angered some in the local community.<\/p>\n
There was a small glimmer of hope earlier this week for residents, when the exchange started working again, however it was short lived with services going offline shortly afterwards.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we were in Ballarat or Melbourne or even Ararat it would be fixed a lot quicker than this,\u201d a local grazier told the Ararat Advocate.<\/p>\n
Shortly before going to print yesterday, Telstra provided a statement to the Ararat Advocate from Victorian General Manager Steve Tinker.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince early Friday morning, 19 customers in the Ballyrogan area have been unable to use their landlines due to a hardware issue at a small network exchange in the local area,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt seems there was a local mains power failure at the site and when the mains power was restored, the exchange didn\u2019t restart again as it should,\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cTelstra is working to resolve the fault and bring back services. We have had techs on site earlier in the week working on the problem and a crew is back out there again today. We hope we can get everything back up and running as soon as possible,\u201d Mr Tinker said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe apologise for any inconvenience caused to those impacted residents during this time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
