IF you’re moving house, clearing out the shed, or just want to make your home safer, then Detox Your Home Day is a great way to dispose of dangerous chemicals for free.

Ararat Rural City Council are again partnering with Sustainability Victoria to deliver Detox Your Home Day.

Household chemicals can be dangerous if left around the home – posing risks to children and pets.

Council CEO Tim Harrison said Detox Your Home Day is a free and convenient service for householders (only) to safely dispose of unwanted toxic chemicals stored around the home.

“Toxic household chemicals, including cleaning products, pool chemicals, pesticides, weed killer, and garage items such as kerosene and brake fluid can be safely disposed of for free.

“In addition to the harm these items pose to family members, they can also add extra fuel to a fire in and around the home,” Dr Harrison said.

Ararat’s event will be held on Saturday 19 March 2022 between 1:30pm – 3.30pm at the Ararat Transfer Station, Surface Hill Road, Ararat.

Registration for the event is essential.

Keeping safety in mind, the event is now drive-through (no walk-ins) and contactless, supported by COVID Safe settings.

“With the event just over six weeks away, it’s a great opportunity to start cleaning up around the home now, so you can take advantage of the opportunity to dispose of these unwanted items for free.” Dr Harrison said.
