SOME of Victoria’s oldest cars are coming to the region in March.

The Veteran Car Club of Australia (Victoria) is holding a three day event on March 18, 19 and 20 featuring one and two cylinder cars, all manufactured prior to 1919.

Club spokesman Michael Holding said all of the cars are at least 110 years old and range in speed between 30 and 60 kilometres per hour.

“Because they are one and two cylinder cars, typically they were made between 1903 through to 1912, so these are the older, smaller cars and we run a special event for them,” he said.

“We do this each year where we pick an area as a base and then each day they go out in their cars and in this case they do 100 kilometres each day around the Ararat region,” Mr Holding said.

While the drivers will base themselves in Ararat, their itinerary includes stops in Pomonal, Halls Gap, Moyston, Willaura, Maroona and Great Western.

“The routes avoid major roads purely so we don’t upset the locals. It’s also not very enjoyable having B-doubles right up behind you.”

“The youngest car on this rally will be 110 years old,” Mr Holding said.

In addition to some of the oldest cars in existence coming to the region, the visit will also include a dozen veteran motorcycles dating back to 1910.

“There will also be five steam driven cars and a steam lorry taking part,” he said.

Members of the public are welcome to come and view some of the rare vintage cars taking part in the event.

The cars will be on display at the following times:
