ARARAT Show Society will be hoping for third time lucky, with plans to return the Ararat Show in October.

The pandemic led to the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 annual shows, but the committee are confident this year’s event can and will proceed.

The committee recently met to give the show the green light.

Show Society President Gwenda Allgood said the committee now has a big task ahead resurrecting the show after a long absence.

“Somebody has to come out of the cupboard and start things moving again and we think as a Show Society we’re quite prepared to take the lead and make sure there is an event people can look forward to,” she said.

“We are still working out what the show will include, we’d always like to value add, and that comes from the young people and they need to speak up now and let us know what they want,” Mrs Allgood said.

At this point, the 2022 show will feature the unusual rides, showbags and carnival attractions as well as entries of floral art, cookery, livestock, horses and poultry.

The Show Society also has booked the popular Mik Maks for the younger children.

Committee Member Gaye Williams said new people are needed to help deliver a successful show.

“We probably are looking for people out in the committee interested in joining the committee. It’s not such an onerous task. In particular we are looking for people interested in art, photography or just a general interest people might have to help us a long because we are light on the ground as far as committee members go,” Ms Williams said.

While the 2020 and 2021 shows did not proceed, the Show Society were able to stage a successful tractor pull last year, attracting a sizeable crowd.

Organiser Russell Begelhole said since the November tractor pull, others have also started up.

“Ballan had 45 to 50 tractors at the weekend, Cobden is going ahead and Stawell, so we are going to run ours again this year at the show and see how it goes,” Mr Begelhole said.

People wanting to help make the 2022 show a success are welcome to attend the next committee meeting at the show pavilion on Wednesday the 16th of March at 7pm.

The 2022 Ararat Show is scheduled to take place on the 23rd of October.
