GREG Gason reached a remarkable milestone last week; 40 years of service to the iconic Ararat manufacturing business bearing his families name.<\/p>\n
Mr Gason commenced his career at the Gason factory in 1982 after he graduated from university with a degree in mechanical engineering, and spent 30 years as the manager of the engineering department.<\/p>\n
Neil Harvey, who had worked for Gason for a comparable length of time before retiring, said that he had always been approachable as a boss.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve had some good times together. You\u2019ve got soul,\u201d Mr Harvey said.<\/p>\n
Over the previous 40 years, Mr Gason had made many significant contributions to the company, including designing agricultural machinery, which Mr Harvey said that farmers still use 20 years on.<\/p>\n
His achievement was celebrated with a morning tea for all factory staff last Thursday.<\/p>\n
During the presentations, Mr Gason himself recalled his early years as an engineer at Gason, when there was one central IBM computer in the building.<\/p>\n
He said he still has his drawing board, which he said was \u201cgathering dust\u201d in his office today.<\/p>\n
Mr Gason also mentioned how drought and commodity prices impacted Gason in 1982\/3 and between 2002 and 2006.<\/p>\n
He said that the most precious aspect of working with the company was the relationships formed with fellow employees.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve had the privilege of working with many talented people here and I\u2019d like to think that I have contributed to the success of the company, but I know that it takes a team effort from all staff in all areas.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Gason finished his address by acknowledging the contribution of a supportive family, his wife Carolyn in particular.<\/p>\n
