VOLUNTEERS at Ararat\u2019s Gum San Chinese Heritage Centre were busy at work when the Ararat Advocate called by last week.<\/p>\n
The centre has been closed for two years due to the pandemic, but around a dozen people were actively cleaning and reorganising the centre last week.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s hoped public tours will commence on April the 7th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n Gum San President Henry Gunstone said the volunteers are eager to get things back on track.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re going to try and open before Easter and we have another working bee this week which will bring us pretty close,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are all itching to get back to work. It\u2019s a tourist attraction that cost over $4 million to build and we\u2019ve got to get it open, it\u2019s our heritage.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re trying to have it open on April the seventh which is pretty close to 21 years since it first opened,\u201d Mr Gunstone said.<\/p>\n Gum San Chinese Heritage Centre was funded by the Bracks Government and brings to life the story of the immigrant miners on the Victorian Goldfields in the mid 1800’s.<\/p>\n Mr Gunstone said while most volunteers have returned to the centre, there is always a need for more.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are always keen to welcome new people and if anyone is interested they can contact me on 0408 332 820,\u201d Mr Gunstone said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" VOLUNTEERS at Ararat\u2019s Gum San Chinese Heritage Centre were busy at work when the Ararat Advocate called by last week.
