THE Victorian Government is being urged to fund \u201curgent\u201d refurbishment works at Ararat College.<\/p>\n
Ripon MP Louise Staley recently visited to school to discuss maintenance issues with school principal Ellie McDougall.<\/p>\n
Ms Staley said the condition of some of the 1960s buildings was a credit to the school, but they are no longer fit for purpose.<\/p>\n
The school has been working on plans for a major refurbishment program which will require additional government funds.<\/p>\n
In State Parliament recently, Ms Staley asked Education Minister James Merlino whether funds would be forthcoming.<\/p>\n
\u201cIs the minister planning to fund the much-needed refurbishment of Ararat College? And if not, why not?.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI recently met with Ellie McDougall, the principal of Ararat College, and she showed me a school that is in a rebuilding phase academically\u2014and more power to her leadership\u2014but the facilities are not fit for purpose,\u201d Ms Staley said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are still stuck in the 1960s, when they were built in many cases, and they do not have the right amount of airflow and all the things that we need these days in the current circumstances we live in, let alone facilities fit for purpose.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Staley said the school has plans in place to improve facilities, but government funding hasn\u2019t eventuated.<\/p>\n
