A once-in-a-lifetime torchlight parade to celebrate the opening of the new Ararat Fire Station will be held next weekend.<\/p>\n
On Saturday the 7th<\/sup> of May, Ararat Fire Brigade will be hosting an open day in the morning from 10am \u2013 2pm. It will include a\u00a0 tour of the new facilities, vehicles on display, demonstrations by the Ararat Junior Fire Brigade, a CFA safety session, free barbeque and information for people wanting to volunteer.<\/p>\n The torchlight processions will follow that evening from 6.30pm, starting from Barkly Street near the post office, down to the cinema, then via Queen Street, Moore Street and Tuson Street,\u00a0 finishing at the fire station.<\/p>\n Surrounding streets will be closed off for the procession.<\/p>\n The day will also be used to honour three fallen firefighters by displaying their names on fire trucks: Captain Alan J Butt (13 December 1954 \u2013 12 September 2019), Group Officer Wayne Wilbur Wilde (25 November 1958 \u2013 15 September 2021) and Captain Kingsley J Walker (10 April 1945 \u2013 15 October 2020).<\/p>\n CFA Captain Daniel Ramsdell is excited about the official opening of the new Ararat Fire Station.<\/p>\n \u201cA lot of planning and preparation has gone into the Community Open Day and Torchlight celebrations after being postponed twice due to COVID-19,\u201d Captain Ramsdell said.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Community Open Day is a fantastic opportunity for the public to view the station, get involved in various activities and demonstrations, and a chance to speak to our members for those looking to volunteer or join the brigade.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Ararat Brigade is a great bunch and always looking to do our best to serve our community. If people are looking to be a part of something bigger, learn new skills, meet new people and give back to the community , I encourage them to come down for the Community Open Day.\u201d<\/p>\n Ararat Mayor Jo Armstrong said CFA volunteers form the backbone of our community.<\/p>\n \u201cThe brigade came into being in 1859; volunteers of the Ararat Brigade not only support and protect our municipality but also nearby towns for fires and accidents that occur throughout the year,\u201d Cr Armstrong said.<\/p>\n \u201cCouncil greatly encourages families to come along to the community open day to tour the Ararat Fire Station and meet local members who volunteer their time to help protect people, wildlife, and property across Greater Ararat,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are also urging members of the public to also join in the torchlight parade to witness a once-in-a-lifetime procession, as we celebrate the opening of the new Ararat Fire Station.\u201d<\/p>\n Ten neighbouring brigades are expected to join the torchlight parade in the evening.<\/p>\n The parade will be led by Ararat Brigade\u2019s original pumper which will be brought up from the Melbourne Fire Museum, followed by the Ararat City Band.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" A once-in-a-lifetime torchlight parade to celebrate the opening of the new Ararat Fire Station will be held next weekend.
