WESTERN Victorians are being denied employment opportunities because of the Morrison Government\u2019s blas\u00e9\u00a0 stance on renewable energy suggests Gilbert Wilson, ALP candidate for Wannon.<\/p>\n
Mr Wilson said the renewable energy sector has so much unrealised employment opportunities, yet it is an industry shunned by the Liberals and Nationals.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not talking about hundreds of jobs potentially, I\u2019m talking thousands of good secure Australian jobs going by the way side because of our Federal Government\u2019s lack of support or interest in clean energy,\u201d Mr Wilson said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhether you work in manufacturing, electricals, construction, maintenance, drive a crane or welder, or have mechanical skills, the sector is awash with unrealised opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n
A recent speech by the new head of wind turbine company Vestas in Australia and New Zealand, Danny Neilsen, warned Australia faces a renewable energies skills shortage, as the roll out of bigger and more complex wind and solar projects ramps up to populate renewable energy zones and meet targets.<\/p>\n
Mr Wilson suggests only two things stand in the way of thousands of good jobs in a vibrant clean energy sector.<\/p>\n
\u201cThose two things are to encourage purchase of local components and materials used in construction and effective national renewable energy targets.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Wilson, who is standing because his job at Keppel Prince in Portland dried up because of no local content requirements in federal renewable energy wind projects, said he knows first hand the importance of local content targets.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s why I\u2019m doing what I can during this election campaign and when I get elected to Canberra to make Australians aware of the untapped job potential in our midst resulting in more clean energy leading to more sustainable industries.
