MOYSTON’s Rosie Nater was announced a recipient of an Order of Australia award back on Australia Day, and last week she was presented with the medal to prove it.

Rosemary Nater OAM was one of 1040 people recognised for outstanding service as part of the annual Australia Day Awards.

She and her partner Jan lbs von Seht and children Juliana and Oliver ventured down to Government House last week to officially receive the Order of Australia award and certificate from Victorian Governor The Honourable Linda Dessau AC.

Rosie was presented with her award for “service to Landcare management and the community of Moyston”.

Along with her tireless work with Moyston Landcare, including 12 years as secretary, Rosie is also a key member of the Moyston Progress Association and Moyston Sheep Dog Trial Club.

She admits it was a “bit of a thrill” being invited to Government House to receive the award.

“They said (beforehand) all you have to do today is smile, you don’t have to think about anything, you don’t have to do anything, we’ll tell you what to do, when to do it, just go with the flow. It was quite regimented,” she said.

“It took about an hour, there were about 90 who were invested and then we were handed a glass of champagne and a cucumber sandwich,” she laughed.

“It was lovely to be able to share it with my family,” she said.

Rosie is a foundation member of Pomonal Landcare, joining the group in 1989.

“Landcare is incredibly important but you often don’t see the things they do. It’s a lot of hard work behind the scene and projects, applying for funding, tackling invasive weeds.”

“We do a project every year with the primary school kids which is a really important part of Landcare,” she said.

“We’ve got a fantastic community in Moyston, the vision is making a strong community even stronger and that’s what Moyston really is. If you’ve grown up here, you want to see your community do well and the challenge now is to engage with a lot of the new people who’ve moved in here over the past few years,” she said.

Moyston resident Max McLean, who himself received an OAM in 2018, told the Ararat Advocate in January Rosie is one of a kind.

“She’s been a big part of the Moyston Sheep Dog Club trials and she’s also been a big part of Landcare in Moyston and currently she’s the Secretary of the Progress Association.”

“There are a lot of people in Moyston like Rosie who are on more than one committee and they really are the backbone of our community,” he said.
