ALL SET FOR TURNER/TUCKEY CUP

THE stage is set for tonight’s annual Turner/Tuckey Cup between the best of the Ararat District juniors and Stawell.

Ararat coach Scott Turner took the players in a skill session last week, with the game this year set to be played under lights at Alexandra Oval.

Ararat will be hoping to retain its crown, with last year’s match going down to the wire in difficult conditions at Central Park.

All four clubs are represented in the squad, with selectors putting together a well-balanced side capable of kicking a big score.

The match will kick off from 6:30pm. The tournament honours Wimmera legends and ex-AFL players Scott Turner and Brent Tuckey.

Turner made 144 appearances for Richmond, as well as 59 for his beloved Ararat Rats, while Stawell’s Tuckey played 22 AFL games for Collingwood and West Coast.

Younger players will also have a busy weekend with the annual Wimmera-Mallee Under 12s carnival at Dimboola.
