Candidate – Fiona Tipping

Fiona Tipping is a candidate for this year’s Ararat Rural City Council election. Here’s her pitch.

Hi I’m Fiona.

For over two decades, I’ve worked across the Grampians region in various roles from cleaner to disability advocate.

It’s because of this history that I was privileged to choose Ararat as my permanent home 4 years ago.

I am passionate about making a difference for everyone, and my experiences have given me a deep understanding of the challenges our community faces.

Buy the The Ararat Advocate print edition, which has full coverage of all the region’s news and sport.

I am the only candidate endorsed by a political party in Ararat Rural City (though it’s a smaller, less traditional one).

I chose this party because its values align with mine—honesty, equity, and the belief that there are real alternatives to the status quo.

I believe in being transparent about where I stand, and I’m committed to keeping my promise to do all that I can to influence my fellow councillors and other levels of Government to be progressive, inclusive and innovative.

My style has always been one of collaboration and diplomacy, which has resulted in great success in my career.

I have a proven track record for successfully lobbying politicians of differing levels and political persuasions for positive change.

I’ve also participated in various Royal Commissions and Parliamentary Inquiries.

Council plays a crucial role in shaping our community’s future, and politics is part of that process. To claim otherwise is misleading.

We need leadership that is willing to embrace all voices, not just those of a select few.

The feedback I’ve heard from many is clear: community consultation must improve in all areas of decision making.

‘Nothing about us, without us’ is my stance.

I am committed to ensuring that every member of our community has a seat at the table, that decisions reflect our diversity, and that we plan for long-term sustainability—both locally and beyond.

The challenges facing our town are not isolated from what’s happening nationally or globally.

By working together, we can create a future where Ararat is not only united but thriving.

Together, we can stand proud, make a difference, and build a prosperous future for everyone.
