Candidate – Peter Joyce

Peter Joyce is seeking a seat at this year’s council election.

Here’s his pitch.

My name is Peter Joyce and I am a fourth generation Ararat resident. I have lived in Ararat my entire life and care about the people of our region.  Currently there are four generations of my family living in Ararat including my supportive wife, parents, children, and grandchildren. I want the best for our children, youth, working class, aged and disadvantaged.

I have been a part of community groups my entire life, playing various sports for over 40 years in local clubs and a member of the CFA for over 30 years. I have also volunteered time at numerous charity and social groups.

My life experience includes working in the agricultural industry and 24 years in government, specialising in policy, compliance, health, safety and security. I also manage a small business in Ararat with my family.

My candidacy for council is driven by a desire to ensure our communities continue to prosper and our growth is managed responsibly and inclusively. If elected I am committed to revitalising our main streets by supporting existing and new potential businesses, creating vibrant shopping and gathering spaces.  Completing the Ararat Hills Trails Project generating millions of dollars into the community through tourism while providing additional facilities to residents. Protect and improve recreational areas and open spaces, making them safe and accessible for everyone. And ensure our rates are reasonable and the revenue from those rates is invested responsibility.

Our rural roads are extremely important for the growth of farming communities.  Our agricultural industry is amongst our biggest employers and contribute so much into our region and deserve quality roads to allow them to function.

I want to contribute to our future growth ensuring our Council is responsible in its financial, ethical, and strategic decisions.  My background in government, coupled with my experience in farming and running a small business locally, equips me with a diverse perspective that could be invaluable in council deliberations.

I have a grounded genuine concern for the future of our communities and a commitment to representing its residents across all age groups and sectors of society.
