Rob Armstrong is a candidate for the Ararat Rural City Council election.
Here’s his pitch.
Hello to everyone in the Ararat shire.
I hope you have time to read this little article about why I am running for council again.
I was lucky enough to have been your councillor for the last four years, which was a big eye opener for me.
Buy the The Ararat Advocate print edition, which has full coverage of all the region’s news and sport.
l didn’t realise there were limits on what the council can do. Some things are controlled by the state government whether we like it or not.
It has been a great pleasure to be part of the united team of councillors, CEO and staff that have worked so hard to have a positive impact on the shire where we can.
We have been an ambitious group, and I am proud of the achievements we have made.
It is my goal to see our shire be one of the best in Australia.
For example: extremely financially viable by running the council as a business with a strict budget.
Having not put our rates up for seven years, which has never been done before, improving a huge amount of infrastructure, such as major work on roads, our own garbage trucks and new recycling system which is starting to work well just to name a few.
Our council, in the last four years, has been very impressive in so many ways.
We have new businesses wanting to set up in Ararat, which will create hundreds of new jobs, housing developments, a new sporting facility and we are now rated as one of the best councils in Victoria.
The main reason l am running again, is that it doesn’t feel like l have finished all the things I wanted to achieve for our shire.
It’s important to me to see things through to the end. I still have a lot to contribute to ensure Ararat shire continues to grow and prosper.
Just to finish, it can be difficult to please everyone all the time. l would like to think we can continue to improve to make sure we listen to everyone and try and help as much as possible, so everyone has a good outcome.
I look forward to your support.
