Pittsburgh Pirate takes the cup

PERFECT spring conditions greeted racegoers at last Sunday’s Ararat Gold Cup.

Well over a thousand people flocked to Ararat Racecourse for the eight race program.

Race 7 was the much anticipated Ararat Gold Cup won by Pittsbergh Pirate by two and a half lengths over Staunch and Lottoroc.

Pittsburgh Pirate also won last month’s St Arnaud Cup.

Ararat Turf Club said it was delighted with Sunday’s turnout, estimated to be around 1200 people.

Apart from a big program of racing, the day also included live music, activities for the kids and an array of food.

Fashions on the Field was also a popular part of the day with Eliza Fraser of Minimay winning the Lady of the Day category and Jack Colantuono selected at Gent of the Day.

Ruby Preston was successful as Local Lady of the Day.
