Shearing in memory of a mate

LAKE Bolac’s first-ever Speed Shear attracted a crowd of more than 800 over the weekend with 85 entrants testing their skills as they competed across four categories.
Hosted at the Lake Bolac Hotel, the event was dedicated to the memory of local shearer Muni Ratana, who passed away last year, a loss felt by the Lake Bolac and shearing community.
Lake Bolac Hotel owner Dianne Toulson said the idea of a Speed Shear event came from Muni’s wife, Judith Ratana.
“She said we should do a Speed Shear here to commemorate his life, and I said yes, we’ll do it with you at the pub,” Dianne explained.
