Brian Burke has been the organisation’s treasurer for 18 years managing substantial distribution of funds to local community groups.

Shearing in memory of a mate
LAKE Bolac’s first-ever Speed Shear attracted a crowd of more than 800 over the weekend with 85 entrants testing their skills as they competed across four categories.
Hosted at the Lake Bolac Hotel, the event was dedicated to the memory of local shearer Muni Ratana, who passed away last year, a loss felt by the Lake Bolac and shearing community.
Lake Bolac Hotel owner Dianne Toulson said the idea of a Speed Shear event came from Muni’s wife, Judith Ratana.
“She said we should do a Speed Shear here to commemorate his life, and I said yes, we’ll do it with you at the pub,” Dianne explained.
Night of laughs aboard the Costa Lotta
ARARAT Regional Theatre Society’s end of year production of ‘Cruise Club’ is set to provide audiences with plenty of laughs.
Cruise Club is set aboard the beautiful Costa Lotta on a cruise to Bermuda, but it’s not all smooth sailing as someone is trying to poison the passengers and nobody knows who will be next!
Director Rennie Hannan encouraged people to get a table of friends or family together for a great night of hilarious twists and turns.
“Cruise Club is a murder mystery and would make a perfect choice for an end of year catchup with friends, family or colleagues,” Mrs Hannan said.

Father Andrew bids farewell
ARARAT’s Catholic Priest Father Andrew Hayes is preparing to bid farewell to the Gariwerd Parish after ten years of dedicated service and community.
Reflecting on his tenure, Father Andrew said after a decade in Ararat it was time for a change.
“Ten years is enough. People benefit from having a range of priests teaching them. It’s good to have new ideas and new places, the people here get to hear from someone else.”
Having also served in Swan Hill for nine years and Casterton for another nine before arriving in Ararat, Father Andrew feels it’s the right moment for a change.
