Darren is a true Monopoly enthusiast
LOCAL man Darren Lester is the proud owner of 130 sets of the much-loved board game, Monopoly.
Mr Lester, who works at the prison when he is not chasing down rare Monopoly sets, has been collecting the game boards for the past four years.
“Star Wars was one of my first sets,” he said of the collection, which also includes several sets of the standard board game.
Kebab van takings stolen
OZY Kokcu has lived in the Ararat community for 20 years.
Many of us know him from his taxi driving days, and now from his kebab van which he runs from the Gum San carpark each week from Wednesday through to Sunday.
Between Wednesday and Saturday of last week, a person or persons took the van’s takings from Mr Kokcu’s car, which totalled $4,000.
Ben is top of his class
YOUNG farmer Ben Hartwich has been voted top of the class by his peers, winning a prestigious award at Sydney’s Royal Easter Show.
23-year-old Ben was named National Merino Sheep Young Judge Champion, beating entries from all other states and New Zealand.
Farmers market coming in spring
THE Ararat region will soon be home to a farmers market, with council finalising plans with the Pomonal community to host the new monthly event.

Digital wayfinding signage switched on
COUNCIL has officially launched four digital wayfinding signs in Ararat, helping visitors find their way around town and further promote the region’s unique attractions.
Ararat Mayor Jo Armstrong said the digital signage investment is part of a larger plan to position Ararat as a strong and attractive tourism destination.
