Gardens in full bloom
THE annual Ararat Retirement Village Ladies Auxiliary Open Garden Day was an outstanding success, with hundreds of people touring through some of Ararat’s best gardens last Sunday.
Five local gardens were opened to the public – Kate and Wayne Gason’s garden in Barkly Street West, Maree and Russell Potter’s stunning garden in Jenkin Street, Bill and Penny Jones colourful garden in Banfield Street and Andrew McMillan’s family garden in Port Fairy Road.
In addition, the gardens of the Ararat Retirement Village were also on show.
Auxiliary President Helen Boling said the Ararat public have once again thrown their support behind the fundraiser.
Miners Ridge claims three awards at Ballarat Wine Show
ARMSTRONG’S Miners Ridge Winery had enormous success at last week’s Ballarat Wine Show, taking home three major awards, including the impressive Champion Wine of Show for their 2022 Shiraz.
Owners Katrina and Andrew Toomey have run Miners Ridge Winery for 26 years and were thrilled with the outcome.
Past Board chairs gather at health service
EAST Grampians Health Service Board chair, Ken Weldin, hosted a lunch with former EGHS Board chairs.
The lunch was to brief the former board chairs on the future developments at the health service, with Director of Support Services Stuart Kerr presenting to the group.
“It is important to get the former board chairs together to share with them the developments of the health service that are upcoming and to learn from their experiences,” Mr Weldin said.
Expressions of interest sought for Christmas Market
COUNCIL are seeking expressions of interest from potential stallholders for the Ararat Rural City Christmas Market. The Market is to be held over two days in early December at the Ararat Town Hall. Volunteer awards acknowledge dedication to community
WANNON MP Dan Tehan hosted his annual Wannon Sport and Volunteer Awards in Ararat last week, awarding eleven local achievers.
The awards acknowledge individuals and groups who, often behind the scenes, play a crucial role in the community’s growth and vitality.
“Volunteering one’s time or talents for charitable, educational and other worthwhile activities plays a vital role in enabling rural communities to flourish,” Mr Tehan said.

LADY golfers have done their bit to help kick off this year’s Ararat Emergency Relief Christmas Appeal. Golden Gateway wraps up
THE 64th annual Golden Gateway Festival wrapped up another year of community spirit and entertainment in Ararat.
Though smaller in scale, the festival saw a successful 10-day lineup of activities, with community members coming out in support.
The festival maintained traditions, featuring classic events like the Mary North Pool Competition, variety concert, mystery bus trip, and the annual parade.
Show numbers up
ORGANISERS of the Ararat Show say attendance at last weekend’s event was up as local residents embraced the annual event.
Hundreds of people poured into the Russell T White Raceway on Sunday for a traditional country show featuring rides, showbags, cooking displays, crafts and photography.
The tractor pull continued to attract a big crowd throughout the day and the return of horse events was another addition to a packed program.
